Barely out of the gate, Chevy’s new Malibu has already been recalled over a serious glitch in the car’s safety systems. It seems that the car’s ‘Sensing & Diagnostic Module’ may reset itself under hard braking. If this occurs just before making a hard turn, the car’s computer can read it as a rollover, triggering the head airbags. In addition, the seat belt pretensioners in the 2012 Chevy Malibu may not trigger in the event of an accident.
This recall affects 4,304 copies of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, made between Oct 24 2011 – Mar 31 2012. GM says that the fix is as simple as reprogramming the ‘SDM’. It will begin notifying owners on June 1st. Also read about the Jeep recall.
