All new for 2014, the five-passenger Buick Regal stands on its own as a smart and sporty evolution of the premium brand’s dynamic midsize sedan. If you’re the customer who wants more, consider stepping up to the 2014 Buick Regal GS for a dynamic driving experience through a high-performance powertrain, sophisticated suspension technologies, premium amenities, and a more expressive presence.
2014 Buick Regal
The new 2014 Buick Regal wears a stylish new design intended to enhance its low, wide proportions and convey a more upscale and contemporary presence. A revised grille and new headlamps show the new “face” of Regal, offering a choice between halogen projector beams and xenon high-intensity discharge lights, as well as Buick’s distinctive wing-shaped LED lighting.
The new 2014 Buick Regal is powered by a choice of engines including an efficient 182-horsepower/2.4-liter engine with eAssist light electrification technology mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The eAssist system uses power stored in a lithium-ion battery to provide an electrical boost in various driving conditions and enable regenerative braking capability allowing the Regal to offer EPA-estimated ratings of 25 city and 36 highway or a more powerful 259-horsepower/2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The 2014 Regal also offers a choice of front-wheel drive or a new all-wheel-drive system that incorporates electronic limited-slip differential to help optimize traction in all driving conditions. Fuel economy ratings for the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine range from 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway when mated to the front-wheel drive powertrain with automatic transmission, to 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway when mated to the all-wheel drive powertrain with automatic transmission.
The new 2014 Buick Regal includes a spectrum of radar- and camera-based safety features including Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert and, Collision Mitigation Braking. An adaptive cruise control system is also available, which senses traffic in front of the Regal to adjust vehicle speed, including stopping the vehicle in heavy traffic when necessary and accelerating again. The 2014 Buick Regal GS features six standard airbags, including dual-stage frontal and side-impact, driver and right-front passenger and head curtain side-impact airbags in the front and rear outboard seating positions.
Inside, the 2014 Buick Regal’s new interior features French seam-stitched leather seating and ice-blue ambient illumination, as well as more amenities and enhanced personal technology, but has simplified operation, reducing the new center stack radio controls to seven buttons instead of the previous 17. Dual-zone climate controls also feature capacitive-touch operation and are framed in chrome.
Infotainment is via standard 7-inch or optional 8-inch color touch screen featuring Buick’s IntelliLink system. Intellilink allows hands-free, natural-language voice activation or Smartphone-influenced swipe recognition for easier navigation using the 8-inch console touch screen and supports Smartphone integration with Bluetooth connectivity to provide audio streaming from Pandora Internet radio and Stitcher SmartRadio, as well as many other connectivity apps. SiriusXM Satellite Radio is standard; Buick Regal buyers will enjoy a free, three-month trial to the XM Premier package, with over 140 channels including commercial-free music, all your favorite sports, exclusive talk stations, and other entertainment. Buick Regal buyers also receive a free six-month “OnStar Directions and Connections” plan, which includes Automatic Crash Response, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Roadside Assistance, and Turn-by-Turn Navigation.
2014 Buick Regal GS
Buyers who step up to the GS benefit from all the premium features on the standard Regal, as well as additional performance, upscale amenities like passive keyless entry and remote start, and more safety features. Along with its standard high-output 259-horsepower/2.0-liter Turbocharged engine and a choice of manual or automatic six-speed transmission, the GS features the exclusive application of Buick’s Interactive Drive Control system, which allows the driver to select between three different drive modes: Standard, Sport, and high-performance GS. Choosing the GS mode and its track-oriented competitive setting increases steering efforts for firmer feel and more direct feedback to the driver. Increased damping levels ensure ultimate wheel control and reduced body roll for better agility. GS mode also is designed to alter the feel of the six-speed automatic transmission for more aggressive shifting.
Fuel economy ratings for the high-output 2.0-liter turbocharged engine in the GS model range from 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway when mated to the front-wheel drive powertrain with automatic transmission, to 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway when mated to the all-wheel drive powertrain with six-speed automatic transmission, or 20 mpg city and 31 mpg highway when mated to the front-wheel drive powertrain with six-speed manual transmission.
The Regal GS’s HiPer Strut front suspension – standard on both FWD and AWD Regal GS models – enhances ride and handling by reducing torque steer; provides more linear and communicative steering through improved camber control; and improves impact isolation on bumps and rough surfaces. It is complemented by a four-wheel-disc brake system featuring front Brembo four-piston front calipers and larger rotors with brake assist.
Inside, the Regal GS looks very different from the standard Regal, thanks to a distinctive eight-inch configurable color instrument cluster screen that easily allows the driver to customize the displayed information with adjustments via steering wheel controls. This premium instrument display is framed with chrome accents and delivers chronograph-style graphics in two modes: Touring and Sport. It is also complemented with a pair of semicircle mechanical instruments for the tachometer and other vehicle functions, befitting of the GS’s driver-oriented mission.
Outside, unique front and rear fascias distinguish the Regal GS. The front fascia incorporates prominent, vertical air intake slots. The rear fascia features a pair of integrated, satin-metallic trapezoidal exhaust outlets. Rocker panel extensions and a rear spoiler extension are also part of the package. The uplevel 2014 Buick Regal GS features a lowered ride height and 19-inch aluminum wheels to project a sporty, purposeful stance. Twenty-inch wheels with summer-rated performance tires are available. The 2014 Buick Regal GS benefits from eight standard airbags, including the same six airbags found on the standard Regal, but adding rear-seat mounted thorax airbags.
