Meet my new Ford Mustang!
The first Mustang Boss was built in the late sixties. Its mission was to be undefeatable on both the track and drag stripe. The development of the car was top secret. When the responsible engineer was asked what he was working on, he answered: ‘’the bosses car’’. That’s where the name comes from.
The Mustang Boss 302 is created for the same reason as the older one: to drive fast on the track. Normally I’m not really a fan, because it feels ‘heavy’ when you’re driving on the limit. But the new Mustang drives incredible and is faster than a lot of the European competition. The goal for this car was the beat the BMW M3 on the Laguna Seca (circuit) and it did! It even beats the Audi R8 V8.
The number 302 stands for the cubical inches of the engine. The 444-horsepower 5.0-liter feels great down low, but when you reach the 7500-rpm redline all hell breaks loose. Step on the gas in the middle of a corner and you’ll make an amazing power slide. The sound that comes from the v8 is one of the main reasons why I like this car, but I must say it’s a little bit too much when you just want to cruise.
There are a few things I don’t really like. The MPG is terrible, so for daily use I wouldn’t recommend it (for daily use I use a Lincoln MKZ Hybrid). If you compare the quality of the interior with the BMW M3 for example, the Ford doesn’t match that. The steering of the Mustang isn’t as ‘direct’ as it could be, but al of this little criticism fades away when you hear the 302 Boss costs only little over $40.000!
